How ready are you for coaching?

On a scale of 1-10, how ready are you for a change?

I often use a 1-10 scale during coaching to gauge how ready or committed a client is for something to happen and how important it is to happen now.

As I’m building the ANP Coaching business, this question might help you gauge your readiness for coaching.

Three

You’re in a pre-contemplative stage, in other words, thinking about thinking about coaching. What should you do? I’d suggest subscribing to a coaching newsletter, reading personal development books and watching some of the masters at work, like Tony Robbins or Brendan Burchard.

Five

You’re actively contemplating it. Perhaps you've started scoping coaches out, following their blogs and newsletters and getting a feel for how different coaches work through their testimonials and recommendations from friends.

Seven

This is the planning stage, where your current situation is making you itchy and you know something must change but not sure how or when. You’re actively watching personal development and coaching content online, trying to apply theory from books you’ve read or booking a coaching exploration call with a coach. All coaches will have some form of exploratory process, to get to know them and their style, develop rapport and work out exactly what you need.

Nine

You’ve reached the right stage of discomfort with your current situation that change is necessary and you’re ready to make the commitment for change. You’ll make great progress with a coach and there’ll be an expectation of a significant change when you start the process.

The obvious question would be, do I need to wait until I’m a 9/10 to start coaching? No, absolutely not, because sometimes a trigger is needed to accelerate rapidly from a 4/10 to 8/10. Afterall, if not now then when?

Are you ready?
